PUYO

The capital of the Pastaza province on the eastern slopes of the Andes, the city lies 900 metres above sea level. It is an important transport hub for the Amazonia, a transit point, where travellers change to canoes or smaller planes to travel further inland. The local airport of Shell-Mera is a popular starting point for various expeditions. The Pastaza province boasts the highest number of indigenous Indian tribes, some of which remain as yet uncontacted.
