BAÑOS

The famous spa town of Baños lies at the foot of the 5,016 metres high Tungurahua, one of the most active volcanoes of the entire continent. Since 1999 the mountain continually erupts pyroclastic material and volcanic ash. The volcanic activity in the area of Baños produces many hot springs used for relaxation and wellness programmes. The town offers a variety of hotels, restaurants and cafés. Thanks to its strategic location between the mountains and the Amazonian lowlands, the town is often visited by the locals as well as by tourists. Favourite activities in the area include rafting, biking, canyoning or trips to the Pailon del Diablo or the Manto de la Novia Waterfalls.
