CAYAMBE - COCA

Cayambe-Coca is one of the largest national parks in Ecuador with over 400,000 hectares. The park boasts incredible biodiversity due to its location on the Equator and the gradually rising terrain reaching from the Amazonian lowlands up to the snow-capped volcanoes. The 5,790 metres high Cayambe Volcano is the only permanently snow-capped peak lying directly on the Equator. The park creates an important hydrographic system for the whole region, as it forms a source of numerous rivers, such as the Quijos or the Cofanes, which form the western Amazon basin. The most interesting locations in Cayambe-Coca are: the Papallacta hot springs, the community of the Oyacachi Indian tribe or the highest waterfall in Ecuador, the San Rafael.
