CHIMBORAZO

The highest mountain in Ecuador with its 6,310 metres gave name to the whole province surrounding this colossal massif. The huge plateaus are a natural biotope for wild llamas and vicuñas. In good and clear weather the majestic Condor can be spotted in the mornings. Chimborazo, the source of the Guayas river system, is a symbol of Ecuadorian statehood depicted on the national emblem. Right at the edge of the glacier stands a mountain refuge, which serves as a base camp for expeditions and mountaineers from all over the world.
