INGA PIRCA

The most important Pre-Incan site in Ecuador. Following a capture by the Incas, the original settlement of the Cañari culture was used as a sacrificial site. The archaeological complex serves to this day for the Inti Raymi, the traditional Incan solstice celebrations. The artefacts uncovered during research on the site are exhibited in the nearby museum. Ingapirca lies in the south of the country in the Cañar province, approximately 3,100 metres above sea level.
