MINDO

An ecological reserve spreading across the western slopes of the Pichincha massif across an area covered by a primary cloud forest. The reserve lies only a two-hour drive from Quito in the endemic bird habitat area of Choco. The reserve is a truly unique bird watching location with the highest ratio of bird species per square kilometre. Among the most popular species are: hummingbirds, toucans, and manakins. The Andean cock-of-the-rock and other rare species can also be seen in this beautiful natural environment. Mindo is also a base for various tourist activities. One day trips offer hiking options around the Nambillo Waterfalls, a visit to a butterfly farm or the new attraction of canopying, which allows visitors to observe life in the treetops from the bird's eye view
