SANTA FE
This island was created by tectonic activity and does not have the usual conical shape. It was named after a Spanish city and covers 24 square kilometres. The Santa Fe, also known as the Barrington Island, lies in the central part of the Galápagos archipelago, to the south-east of Santa Cruz. It is one of the geologically oldest, with volcanic rock dated at up to 4 million years. The typical vegetation is dense opuntia growth. Santa Fe is also home to two endemic animal species: the Barrington land iguana and the Indefatigable Galápagos mouse.
