It is the tropical area that from the north until the south skirts with the Pacific Ocean. Whole region is made up from six provinces: Esmeraldas, Manabi, Santa Elena, Guayas, El Oro and Los Rios. Coastline is 2237 KM long and offer wonderful beaches, ports, small fishing villages and centers of amusment.
Along the year you can enjoy crystalline and warm waters, exquisite gastronomy, people’s kindness and countless tourist activities. Several national parks such as Machalilla and Manglares-Churute provide endless opportunities for eco-adventurers.
The route of the sun (La ruta del sol) is most beautiful coast line in the Pacific Ocean. Here you can find many different ethnic groups and almost 100 amazing beaches, most of them totally unpopulated.
Here you can find everything from Ecuador’s largest resort city - Salinas, to the exciting Machalilla National Park, or one of the most beautiful beaches in South America, Frailes and La Plata Island, famous for its amazing diversity of bird species. Here every summer hundreds of Humpback Whales swim from the Antarctica to the warm waters of Ecuador to celebrate their yearly mating ritual.
All over the coast are located also some of the best surfing spots in South America, as for example: Mompiche, Ayampe, Montanita among the others.
The region’s climate varies from hot and humid in the north to hot and dry in the south.
The average temperature is 24°C (18ºC to 30ºC); the climate is very much influenced by the ocean currents El Niño (warm) and Humboldt (cold).
