Floreana

It was named after Juan Jose Flores, the first President of Ecuador, during whose administration the government of Ecuador took possession of the archipelago.

It has an area of 173 km² and a maximum altitude of 640 metres. It is one of the islands with the most interesting human history and one of the earliest to be inhabited.

It also offers lovely, unique sights like Playa Negra, with its lava sand; Flamingo Lake; Punta Cormorán and the Pirates' Caves, the main refuge of pirates in bygone days. It is still possible to find traces of these intrepid adventurers. You can also visit an original Post Office with an old barrel dating from the XIX century, where travellers posted their letters. There are also diving spots like the Corona del Diablo where you can see abundant see life or play with sea lions.
