San Cristobal is the easternmost island in the Galapagos archipelago. Its English name was given after the English nobleman Count Chatham. It has an area of 558 km2 and its highest point rises to 730 meters. This island is one of the few that has permanent settlements.
At the south end of the island there is the capital of the province Galápagos, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (8000 inhabitants). But this town resembles more a fishing village and there are not as many tourists as in the main tourist center Puerto Ayora. One of the two main Galapgos airports is located at San Cristobal island. The Island has also the biggest sweet water lake in Galapagos, named El Junco.
Very close to this island we can find famous diving location - Kicker rock.
