It´s one of the most visited national parks. It´s name is given by one of the highest volcano in the world – Cotopaxi, with 5897 meters above the sea level. It´s localted only two hours from the south of Quito, near of Latacunga city, has been already two times in the past flattened by eruptions.
Imposing, the almost symmetric cone of the volcano is also the dominant of whole national park and is haunted by many photographs as the icon of Ecuadorian highlands.
National park has more than 33000 hectare of extension, and the mountain altitude has 3.400 meters to the highest peak.
Main sites of interest are: Lake Limpipungo, lavas fields and panoramic views to breathtaking surroundings with flying condors.
In the national park you can find camping sides and trails for downhill, which became lately very popular.
