The biosphere reservation Sumaco consists of the national park Sumaco- Napo-Galeras. Its territory lies over Napo, Orellana and Sucumbíos counties.
The height goes from Andean paramo ( 4000 m) until the tropical forest (400m) that forms its biggest part. The name of reservation is deduced from Sumaco volcano ( 3 732 m), but there are plenty of others volcanoes: El Reventador, Yanayacu, Pan de Azucar. Inside the reservation live several indigenous tribes that use Quechua as their primary language and have maintained their life style for centuries. The great biodiversity the flora and fauna in whole area is very exuberant, you can observe animals as: jaguar, puma, tapir, armadillo, guanta, monkeys, macaws and toucans.
